Dawayne Bailey's "Joyland"

One of my photographs of Miles is featured on the cover of Dawayne Bailey's 2006 release entitled, Joyland. I was also honored that Dawayne asked me to play some acoustic and electric drums/percussion on some of the songs. He also recorded a nostalgic Beatle-esqe song written by my father called "Please Don't Go". I love the album and I am so proud of Dawayne and all his musical achievements. Check out Dawayne's MySpace to hear samples from "Joyland".

Please Don't Go

"Please Don't Go" is a rare and undiscovered jem written by an obscure songwriter by the name of Albert McDonald.

Written and demoed originally in 1969, this recording by Dawayne Bailey captures the spirit of Beatlemania and the 1964 British Invasion.

The cover photo of Albert, holding a Mosrite electric guitar in 1969, attests to his matinee idol good looks and rock n' roll sensibility.

Albert sacrificed his dream of living the rock n' roll lifestyle by serving his country in the United States Air Force during the tumultuous 60s, serving time in Vietnam and elsewhere around the world.

This is the debut of Albert McDonald's rare contribution to 60's American and British Pop as interpreted by Dawayne Bailey in 2004.

The song appears on the 2006 CD release by Dawayne Bailey, entitled "Joyland". For more details and to order the CD, visit dawaynebailey.com.

The Raven Drum Foundation

The Raven Drum Foundation was founded by Def Leppard drummer, Rick Allen and Lauren Monroe.

After losing his arm in a car accident, Rick Allen had a tough journey ahead of him to heal and recover. The foundation was created as a community program to encourage empowerment and healing by drumming together in drum circles.

I really admire people who reach out to others with music. I also enjoy playing drums and it really can be quite therapeutic.

Olivia the Pig

Olivia the pig is the creation of painter and illustrator, Ian Falconer from New York. He originally created the character of Olivia as a gift for his neice bearing the same name. Eventually, his idea of Olivia the pig grew into a successful line of children's books.

I really love illustrations and cartoons that are unusual and unique. The minimal use of colors (red, black, & white) make it different from what most people see as a traditional children's illustration. You can learn more about the creator of Olivia and purchase the books at simonsays.com

Anton Corbijn

Anton Corbijn has been one of my major influences. I first discovered his work when he started doing artwork, photography, video projections, music videos and stage design for the band Depeche Mode. His photography is very dark, but classic and humorous. I love the way he uses light, color and contrast in his photography and art.

His photography and artwork have been featured on many album covers and sleeves for bands such as Depeche Mode, U2, Bee Gees, Metallica, R.E.M., David Gray , Foo Fighters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Steely Dan and many many more.

He is a brilliant video director and often injects his sense of humor into the videos he directs. He also maintains his use of light, shadow, colors and contrast in his music videos. The most recent videos he directed this past year include: Depeche Mode – Suffer Well, Coldplay – Talk and The Killers – All These Things That I've Done. You can see Depeche Mode's Suffer Well video here. He has also direcetd videos for The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, Nirvana, Bryan Adams, The Rollins Band and many more.

He is currently working on a film called "Control", the story of Ian Curtis - former lead singer for Joy Division that committed suicide in 1980. You can learn more about Anton and see more of his work at his website: www.corbijn.co.uk

The Star Guitar & Mohawk Hat

The Star Guitar by First Act. This particular guitar was made for Martin Gore. This guitar was one of the many guitars he had on the Touring the Angel tour with Depeche Mode.

Martin chose the star shape and silver glitter finish as sort of a tribute to 70's glam rock. This guitar stood out from his usual choice of Gretsch, Gibsons, or Epiphones so it really caught my eye.

You can learn more about the Star Guitar at the First Act website:

As you can see in the photos, Martin is wearing a really cool knit mohawk hat. I've never seen anything like it around and if anyone is going to wear something unique on stage, it's Martin Gore. The hats are the creation of Alyce Benevides and Jaqueline Milles of knit-head.com. They made this hat especially for Martin.
